Fulton West

The nine-story Fulton West hints at the westward march of high-tech office development as part of a newly-designated Innovation District. This extended office conglomeration is being further encouraged by the construction of a new CTA Green Line Station at Damen and Lake and by a proposal to build a Metra Station on the site of the former Archer Daniels Midland flour mill at 1300 W. Carroll Street. For Fulton West, developer Sterling Bay and architect Gensler revived work on a previously abandoned project. The building offers substantial outdoor space to tenants with several terraces, a roof deck, and a 20,000-square foot landscaped courtyard by Site Design Group—key difference-makers for companies and their workers in the midst of a global pandemic. Fulton West comprises two visually distinct parts: its dark brick base reflects and reinterprets vernacular forms and materials of the surrounding warehouses, while the upper floors receive a contemporary treatment with an aluminum and glass facade.
