DETAILS:

The mural on the east wall of the Pilsen Vintage thrift shop is the result of a related mural that briefly appeared under a viaduct near the United Center mere the days after George Floyd’s murder by Minneapolis police officers. That mural, which centered on an image of Black man and a Latino man interlocking fists, was whitewashed just 12 hours after its completion. Soon after the mural was lost, the participating artists formed a Pilsen-based collective network focused on beautifying and providing services for the city’s underserved communities. Contributors include artists Dred Ske, Milton Coronato, Nikko Washington, Sentrock, Statik and Tubs Zilla—an emerging generation of artists whose contributions are tagged with their Instagram handles.
