Teresa Roldan Apartments

1154 N Campbell Ave

DETAILS:

Built by the Hispanic Housing Development Corp. (HHDC) for those 55 and older, this five-story, 59-unit affordable rental building is reflective of a Spanish neoclassical architectural style typical of buildings in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is bright yellow with ornate wrought-iron balconies. The building is named for the mother of Hipolito “Paul” Roldan, then president of the HHDC, who died of cancer while the project was under construction. At the time of its completion in 2006, it met a growing need for stable, affordable housing for an aging Boomer population under threat of displacement due to rising rents in Humboldt Park. Nearly 20 years later, there is much affordable housing demand still to be met. Monthly rents at the Teresa Roldan Apartments are based on a percentage of a resident's annual income. The building is open to anyone who meets the age and income guidelines.
