3113 N. Kolmar Avenue

3113 N. Kolmar is the oldest bungalow in the Hermosa Bungalow District, having been completed in October 1920. It is the district’s only confirmed bungalow designed by the architect Gaerger (first name unknown). It faces an attractive stretch of boulevard that, with its extra green space and serene setting, was devised as a key selling point for this new “far-flung” area six miles northwest of downtown. Together with immediate neighbors 3111 and 3117 N. Kolmar, these bungalows display likenesses in their offset front entrances, inset porches and brick and limestone detailing while providing enough variation in dormers, window configuration and rooflines to keep one’s interest.
