DETAILS:

Chinatown Square, often referred to locally as New Chinatown, is a 40-acre mixed-use redevelopment of the former Santa Fe rail yards. Centering on a large outdoor retail and restaurant complex with affordable and senior housing on surrounding blocks, this project greatly expanded the neighborhood’s business district and open space while improving housing options. The layout of the commercial spine with its inward-facing retail and restaurants forming an intimate pedestrian alley is inspired by traditional Hutong neighborhood design common to northern Chinese cities like Beijing.
