Pleasant Home
217 Home Ave.
DETAILS:
Pleasant Home (the John Farson House) is a Prairie Style mansion at the corner of Pleasant Street and Home Avenue. Herbert Mills purchased the property from Farson in 1910 then, in 1939, sold the mansion, its conservatory and now-demolished coach house to the Park District of Oak Park. The property is known today as Mills Park. The mansion's interior features a breathtaking main foyer, stunning art glass windows and intricately carved wood details tied together by the architect George Maher’s signature motifs. Pleasant Home is generally considered to be among the earliest examples of Prairie Style architecture and one of the best examples of Maher's work. The National Historic Landmark is now operated as a house museum by Pleasant Home Foundation.
