Englewood
US Bank (Chicago City Bank & Trust)
815 W. 63rd St.
DETAILS:
The former Chicago City Bank and Trust is an imposing Art Deco structure whose sleek stepped-back limestone facade has intricate geometric details. It towers over what was the second-busiest commercial district in the city at the time it was built. The opulent building was constructed to serve as the home of three banks merging into one. The grand banking hall, with its elaborate 28-foot-high ceiling, is resplendent with rich warm marble. It's lit by large arched windows and features abundant decorative bronze work—from teller screens to chandeliers. The landmarked building is now a US Bank branch. It has a front-row seat for exciting developments in the renewal of Englewood.
