Englewood Village Plaza

5822 S. Halsted St.

DETAILS:

58th and Halsted is the site of Englewood Village Plaza— a transformed intersection and new anchor in the neighborhood. This location represents the intersection of resource-sharing, art, agriculture, and collective economics through partnership. It is the product of years of creative placemaking and intentional community engagement beginning when Englewood Arts Collective designed and painted the viaduct and overpass in 2020. Grow Greater Englewood is the primary community organization activating the space with community meetings, Farmer's Market days, and gardening. The southwest corner is one entry point to the future Englewood Nature Trail, an infrastructure project on city-owned land that will connect Englewood to surrounding communities in a beautiful and sustainable way. The Trail will also anchor a new agro-eco district that will promote creative green businesses on the South Side. The site is also becoming a public art hub. Englewood Arts Collective's newest piece, "We Deserve Beautiful things," is a living sculpture serving as proof-of-concept for a larger “Beautiful Things” public art campaign throughout the neighborhood over the next few years.
