The Field Museum of Natural History

The Field Museum, centerpiece of Chicago’s Museum Campus, is one of the world’s foremost institutions of natural history. It was an outgrowth of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, and, thanks to large donations from Marshall Field and other wealthy Chicagoans, came to house many exhibitions and collections originally shown at the exposition. In 1914, the museum broke ground on its current Neo-Classical building. Today, The Field Museum’s permanent collection numbers over 30 million specimens, and serves around 1.5 million annual visitors.
