Lincoln Park
The National Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini
2520 N. Lakeview Ave.
DETAILS:
The shrine was located at the heart of Lincoln Park's Columbus Hospital for 47 years. In 2002, when the hospital was torn down, the shrine and Mother Cabrini's room were conserved. After a complete renovation directed by Sullivan, Goulette and Wilson, the shrine reopened in 2012. The chapel is an architectural gem of gold mosaics, Carrara marble, frescoes and Florentine stained glass. It is now surrounded by Lincoln Park 2550, a luxury condominium development built on the former site of Columbus Hospital. The National Shrine functions as a stand-alone center for prayer, worship, spiritual care and pilgrimage.
