Access Living Headquarters

115 W. Chicago Ave.

DETAILS:

Opened in 2007, Access Living Headquarters is one of the the first examples of universal design – buildings and products that are accessible to all people regardless of age or ability – to be built in the United States. The project was spearheaded by Jack Catlin of LCM Architects, an award-winning design innovator who uses a wheelchair himself and is widely recognized as a pioneer in creating inclusive and sustainable environments that go well beyond ADA requirements. The building features barrier-free spaces to host meetings, public forums, hearings, symposiums, trainings and other events, helping to raise the visibility of disability culture. Artwork created by dozens of artists with disabilities grace the building walls, as well as photographs that capture pivotal moments in the disability rights movement.
