NEIU El Centro

First conceived more than 40 years ago as a satellite extension of Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) serving the school’s growing Latino Community, El Centro has steadily expanded into a full fourth campus offering coursework towards multiple degrees. Located at Kimball and Belmont Avenues, the campus welcomed a bold addition in 2014 by JGMA Architects. The new main academic and student services building is a crystalline form with great texture and warmth, characterized by blue and yellow vertical louvers that dampen noise and shade classrooms from the evening sun. Situated alongside the Kennedy Expressway, it is a beacon to thousands of daily passersby. Visitors to the roof deck are treated to panoramic city views.
