New Elephant Resale Shop
2325 N. Clark St.
DETAILS:
Visit the dramatic home of this non-profit resale shop benefiting local charities inside the landmark Reebie Storage Warehouse. A rare example of exuberantly-ornamented Egyptian Revival architecture, this fireproof warehouse was designed in 1922 by architect George Kingsley and sculptor Fritz Albert for a moving company. Its gleaming white terra cotta exterior and colorful sculptural elements mimic the artifacts of ancient Egypt. This ornament extends inside to the lobby, now occupied by the shop. Peek upstairs to get a sense of the building’s rock-solid fireproof construction.
