Third Unitarian Church
301 N. Mayfield Ave.
DETAILS:
A Chicago landmark, Third Unitarian Church is an early example of a house of worship built in the Modern style. Its straightforward use of brick and wood reflect the financial constraints imposed by the Great Depression at the time the church was built. Although the materials were simple, the design is visually distinctive, reflecting the progressive character of the Unitarian congregation. Inside, a series of ceramic tile murals created by Works Progress Administration artist and church member Andrene Kauffman adorn the brick walls of the sanctuary.
