Morgan Park Academy Alumni Hall

2153 W. 111th St.

DETAILS:

Tucked away south of 111th Street, Alumni Hall is one of several stately neo-Gothic buildings that surround the campus quadrangle at Morgan Park Academy. Alumni Hall’s dramatic spaces include the historic dining hall and upper school library with vaulted ceiling, double staircase, grand fireplace and wraparound mezzanine. Take in the wrought-iron chandeliers and elaborate woodwork. The K-12 independent school has a storied history dating to shortly after the Civil War, in 1873, as a military academy. It became the first preparatory school for the University of Chicago, reverted to military boarding school, and since the late 1950s has operated as a co-ed day school.
