DETAILS:

After more than 30 years in Daniel Burnham’s iconic Railway Exchange Building, SOM’s Chicago studio decided it was time to rethink their space in 2020. Encircling the building’s airy, terracotta-clad lightwell, the renovated office embodies the workshop-style atmosphere of the best design ateliers. The Railway Exchange Building, also known as Santa Fe Building, was originally designed by D. H. Burnham & Company, an architecture firm that succeeded Burnham and Root, and was founded by Daniel Burnham. The building was completed in 1904 and today houses the offices of several architecture firms.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

SOM will lead guided tours of the 2-floor studio space, including a visit to the Interiors and Materials library on the 9th floor.
