DETAILS:

After decades of helping cats find loving families, the Tree House Humane Society moved into a new, specially designed site in 2017. The building is home to eleven cat colonies, nine of which have access to outdoor enclosures. The whole complex is designed to be eco-friendly, with energy-efficient floor heating and extensive use of skylights. Tree House is also home to Chicago’s first in-shelter cat café, where patrons can visit adoptable cats with feline leukemia while enjoying a drink. The parking lot features a working outdoor feral cat colony. An on-site cat clinic is already functional and a new community clinic opened in 2021 in service of both cats and dogs.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

Tree House will provide guided tours of the shelter, including behind-the-scenes of the veterinary clinic and community areas. Tours will depart every 15 minutes, with 6-8 people per group. Tree House will have specials at the retail store and the cat cafe.
