Original bowling alley (Court Recreation) opened in the 1930's, 2nd rendition (Northwest Bowl) operated from the mid-50's to the early 90's, we opened the doors to Avondale Bowl in January 2020.

DETAILS:

This eight-lane, second-story bowling alley and bar has roots going all the way back to the 1930s. Originally opened as Court Recreation with handset pins and wood lanes, it evolved into Northwest Bowl in the 1950s when automatic pinsetters were installed along with other equipment still used in the space today. Northwest Bowl closed in the early 1990s, and the space lay dormant until 2018 when construction began on Avondale Bowl. Restoring as much of the bowling equipment and lanes as possible, Avondale Bowl offers bowling in its classic form (manual scoring & wood lanes) in a modern-meets-vintage setting. New skylights and large windows allow for natural light, a rare feature in bowling alleys, and a rebuilt bar incorporates the original mahogany rail.

ENTRANCE INSTRUCTIONS:

There will be no bowling / access to the bowling lanes after 4:00 pm on Sunday due to league play. Parking may be limited due to construction on Milwaukee Ave.

ENTRANCE RESTRICTIONS:

  • - Photo ID required.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

Volunteers will escort guests from the front door to either the stairway or elevators leading to the bowling alley. Guests are encouraged to take a self-guided tour of the lanes and bar while stopping by the Shoe Counter to have any questions answered about the space. Guests are welcome to visit our website at avondalebowl.com and book their own reservations if they would like to bowl.
