DETAILS:

Established in 2014 to change the culture of waste in Chicago, The WasteShed provides Chicagoans with an affordable resource for repurposed arts, crafts, and school materials. It is also a dynamic center of activity connecting people who are interested in living more sustainably, seeking inspiration in unconventional materials, getting the most out of the resources they have on hand, or just making projects at a low cost. While sustainability is the ultimate goal, creative reuse emphasizes fun hands-on activities as points of entry into larger discussions about ownership, the material world and the way we live in it. Over the course of the last few years, The WasteShed has grown as a community hub for education, mutual aid, materials literacy, meaningful rest, joy, and play.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The entire shop will be open to the public to view. A video/audio guide will be provided to interested participants covering the history of The WasteShed and the impact of creative reuse. There will also be a scavenger hunt for youth.
